Workshops explore opportunities
Attendee’s ability and technical competence are obligatory. Workshops are not training sessions. They concentrate on specific organisational issues such as solving a work problem, designing a new system, perhaps developing modifications to an existing product, creating a strategy for a new product and galvanising an innovative service provision.
Other headings might include overcoming barriers, improving teamwork, team building and simplifying communications between departments. Similarly, a complex company management challenge may be set up to overcome perceived blocks in a troubling system.
Workshops are dynamic and aimed at seeking organisational effectiveness. In themselves unique, powerful and quick-paced. They are an effective instrument for leaders and their groups to pursue meaningful change, buy-in, opportunity and progress.
A workshop leader has an important job and is best when:
- Experienced in workshop leadership
- Parking their agenda at the door
- Having a full grasp of the subject matter
- Bringing a full understanding and respect for all attendees
- Maintaining outcome-driven focus with the end in mind
Alan Dawson is a coaching authority on workshop leadership.
